Undermining Public Health and Human Rights: The United States' HIV Immigration and Travel Ban

For more than 20 years, the United States government has barred HIV-positive people from immigrating to the United States and those already in the U.S. from attaining legal immigration status with few exceptions. The government has even banned HIV-positive visitors from traveling to or transiting through the country.
The U.S. Congress is on the verge of passing language to lift the bar, and advocates from the U.S. maybe traveling to the XVII International AIDS Conference in Mexico City with a new success story to tell. Whether or not the bar is lifted through PEPFAR reauthorization, however, advocates will still have work to do around implementation.
We invite you to join Gay Men's Health Crisis (GMHC) and other concerned experts and advocates for a Satellite Session on the U.S. HIV-related travel and immigration issues to strategize for the creation and implementation of more equitable policies:

We look forward to bringing together people who are willing to strategize and advocate for lifting the bar, including HIV/AIDS, immigrant, human rights, and LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender) service, advocacy and activist organizations along with immigrants and people living with HIV/AIDS.

Por mas de 20 años, el gobierno de los Estados Unidos ha prohibido a personas VIH positivas inmigrar a los Estados Unidos y los que ya viven en el pais se les ha prohibido obtener un status inmigratorio legal con muy pocas excepciones. El Gobierno incluso ha prohibido a visitantes VIH positivos viajar o hacer escalas a traves del país.
El Congreso de los Estados Unidos esta al borde de pasar el lenguage para levantar esta prohibicion, y los promotores de este lenguage prodrian viajar a la XVII Conferencia Internacional del SIDA en la ciudad de Mexico con una historia de este exito para contar. Ya sea que este prohibimiento sea levantado o no a travez de la reautorizacion PAPFAR, los promotores tendran trabajo que hacer para implementarla.
Los invitamos a que se unan a la oganizacion Hombres Gay Crisis de Salud (GMHC) y otros preocupados expertos, promotores y abogados a la sesion via satelite sobre "Asuntos sobre el SIDA relacionados con viajes e inmigracion a los Estados Unidos" para crear estrategias e implementar politicas mas equitativas.
Este foro compartirá la última información en los temas de salud pública y analisis de los derechos humanos.

Esperamos unir a las personas que están decididas a planear y abogar para "levantar la barra" incluyendo organizaciones activistas, sobre el VIH y SIDA, inmigrantes, defensores de derechos humanos, servicios a la comunidad lesbiana, homosexual, bisexual y transgenero, en conjunto con inmigrantes y personas viviendo con VIH y SIDA.
