Canada's top outcomes in HIV/AIDS research

Dear HIV/AIDS colleagues,
As you know, the CIHR HIV/AIDS Research Initiative is
responsible for the management and oversight of the research components of the two major Government of Canada initiatives in HIV/AIDS,
namely the Federal Initiative to Address HIV/AIDS
in Canada and the Canadian HIV Vaccine Initiative . These initiatives
provide $22.7M annually to support researchers and trainees through the five research funding streams of the CIHR HIV/AIDS
Research Initiative:
- Biomedical and clinical research
- Health services and population health research
- Community-Based Research
- CIHR Canadian HIV Trials Network
- Canadian HIV Vaccine Initiative
Increasingly, the Government of Canada and CIHR are looking to provide evidence of outcomes for its significant investment in health
research. As part of our efforts to inform government and the public about the success of our researchers and research initiatives, we
are looking for your concrete examples of significant advances in science and the application of research generated knowledge into
policy and practice improving HIV prevention and care, treatment and support for those affected. For further background
information on CIHR's commitment to share information about research outcomes, please visit the CIHR webpage
on communicating the value of research .
We need your input to build examples of important advances in HIV research and practice over the past two years - resulting in full or in
part from CIHR funding.
Please send us copies of key publications from your work, and ideally, a brief description of the importance of the work and why the
outcomes of your CIHR-funded research and/or knowledge translation efforts will make a difference for those living with or vulnerable
to HIV/AIDS.
CIHR will use this information for such purposes as annual reports, research outcome stories on the CIHR website, showcasing Canadian
work at the upcoming International AIDS conference (AIDS 2012) and other means of demonstrating accountability and the impact and
importance of investments in HIV/AIDS research.
Please contact us by the end of May 2012 and share the exciting results of your work to date as we all endeavor to highlight Canada's
top outcomes in HIV/AIDS research.
