Borderless Documentary,
A Grandmother's Tribe
wins the
Carol Stolman Humanitarian Award
at the Sonoma International Film Festival
Monday, April 20, 2009 - California, USA - The Sonoma International Film Festival 2009 honored the documentary film,
A Grandmother's Tribe, by presenting Executive Producer, Kimberley Buchanan, with the Carolyn Stolman Humanitarian Award at the close of the Festival.
The festival was held in Sonoma, California from 1-5 April 2009.
A Grandmother's Tribe was also selected to open the documentary segment of the festival. The premiere screening on 2nd April was sold-out with each audience member sporting a "join the tribe" badge in support of the grandmothers of sub-Saharan Africa.
"The tremendous support and interest that the film has been given just shows how powerful these grandmother's are. The audience connects with the women and their grandchildren which helps in profoundly getting the message out about the AIDS pandemic globally and more specifically in Africa," says Kimberley Buchanan, Executive Producer of the film who attended the festival.
A Grandmother's Tribe is a for-purpose documentary film and campaign produced by New Zealand Company, Borderless Productions Limited.
The film casts an unobstructed and compassionate lens onto the lives of two Kenyan grandmothers - "a tale of two grannies, village and urban" - who find themselves in the riptide of the African AIDS pandemic. Their stories are the
stories of thousands of similar women whose strength of human spirit brings unforeseen hope to an ocean of crisis. It is a story of love, tenderness, loss and courage.
A Grandmother's Tribe premiered at the DOCNZ International Documentary Film Festival (07) and has since premiered in Kenya, and Vancouver, Canada. Since the film was released, it has raised more than CA$100,000 for grandmothers in
sub-Saharan Africa. To find out more about the film or to obtain a copy of the DVD, contact Borderless Directors, Dean Easterbrook and Qiujing Wong on +64 9 3023103.
