24 February 2020 (Geneva, Switzerland) – The International AIDS Society (IAS) has announced the plenary presentations headlining the 23rd International AIDS Conference (AIDS 2020), which will take place in San Francisco and Oakland, United States, on 6-10 July 2020. AIDS 2020 is the world’s largest conference on HIV and AIDS and is expected to bring together 20,000 participants from more than 170 countries.
“The AIDS 2020 plenary programme features this year’s most critical issues in the global HIV response,” AIDS 2020 International Chair, Anton Pozniak, said. “We are delighted to be joined by such a renowned group of HIV scientists, policy specialists and community leaders.”
Issues under the spotlight in the AIDS 2020 plenary programme will include biomedical HIV prevention strategies, vaccine and cure research, advances in treatment and a global perspective of Undetectable equals Untransmittable (U=U). In addition, plenaries will cover paediatric HIV, resilience among women living with HIV, HIV-related inequities, social factors driving HIV, interventions for people who inject drugs, aging with HIV, funding the response and progress towards global targets.
AIDS 2020 Local Co-Chair, Cynthia Carey-Grant, added, “The very essence of this year’s plenary programme underscores the conference’s commitment to an equitable HIV response. The plenaries combine lived experiences and best practices for addressing disparities that remain in the prevention and treatment of HIV.”
“The AIDS 2020 plenary programme is designed to showcase and accelerate progress in HIV science, research, advocacy, and policy,” AIDS 2020 Local Co-Chair, Monica Gandhi, remarked. “It is vital for us to come together this July, as a global community, to discuss critical innovations in biomedical HIV prevention to advances in treatment and monitoring to promising approaches towards a functional cure."
