This event was founded in 2008 by Martin Rooney as part of the campaign to remove the US HIV Travel Ban. Proceeds have surpassed $65,000 since its inception and Red Ribbons 4 Life has now become the largest singular, one-night benefit for AIDS in the lower mainland outside of the city of Vancouver. Each year, the momentum of this event continues to grow. In 2016, over $13,000 was donated to the Surrey HIV Food Bank. This year, we have also officially been incorporated as a Non-Profit Society in BC with an expanded mandate to focus on food security for HIV and HCV positive individuals. Our goal is to generate funding to be distributed to direct services that focus on food security for those on low-income and/or disability in the HIV and HCV community on the lower mainland.
To follow up on his popular address at last year’s event, Dr. Brian Conway, M.D. FRCPC, President and Medical Director of the Vancouver Infectious Diseases Centre (VIDC), will once again be the Keynote Speaker for the event. We are counting on him to deliver a message of hope and action as we unite to reach our goal of a world without HIV/AIDS, HCV, and other health conditions perpetuated by stigma, discrimination, and inequality. There will also be an amazing line-up of performances!
